Editor’s note: This article was rewritten in October 2026. An earlier version was based on rumours about a ‘Fold 6 Slim’. Samsung released the phone as the Galaxy Z Fold6 Special Edition in October 2024.
For most of 2024, leaks referred to a thinner ‘Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim’. Samsung announced the phone in October 2024 as the Galaxy Z Fold6 Special Edition, on sale from 25 October in South Korea only.
What changed compared with the Z Fold6
- Thinner and lighter: 10.6mm folded and 236g, about 1.5mm thinner and 3g lighter
- Camera: 200MP main sensor instead of 50MP
- Screens: slightly larger, with an 8-inch inner display
- Memory: 16GB RAM and a single 512GB storage option
- Missing: no S Pen support
- Unchanged: Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and 4,400mAh battery
- Price: 2,789,600 won (about $2,038)
The AI part, in plain words
The Special Edition runs the same Galaxy AI software as the Z Fold6, including Live Translate, Note Assist and Circle to Search. The difference is the hardware, not the AI.

Why it matters
This model showed Samsung could make a much thinner foldable, a direction it carried into later Fold models. Outside Korea it was only available through importers.
