Editor’s note: This article was rewritten in October 2026. An earlier version described leaked specs and a ‘likely Qualcomm’ chip. The Phone (2a) launched on 5 March 2024 with a MediaTek chip.
Nothing announced the Phone (2a) on 5 March 2024. It brought the brand’s transparent design and Glyph lights to a lower price, and it was the first Nothing phone to use a MediaTek chip instead of Qualcomm.
Key specs at launch
- Chip: customised MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro
- Display: 6.7-inch, 120Hz
- Rear cameras: dual 50MP, centred on the back
- Battery: 5,000mAh
- Prices: £319 in the UK; ₹23,999 and ₹27,099 in India (₹25,999 for an India-only 12GB/256GB version); $349 in the US through a developer programme only
The AI part, in plain words
The camera relies on standard AI processing: scene detection, multi-frame low-light shots and portrait blur. Nothing’s own software focuses more on its clean interface and the Glyph lights, which can show notifications and charging progress on the back of the phone.

Who it suits
The Phone (2a) suits people who want a phone that looks different and runs near-stock Android without paying flagship prices. US buyers should note it was never sold there as a regular retail phone.
